My Journey: Throughout my life I’ve always worked very hard to be good at the things I’m passionate for, and this will build a strong person out of myself. I tend to be very versatile, engaging in sports, fine arts and community service activities that will expose me to different experiences.

My parents always taught me to fight and never give up, because this would be the only way I would ever get to achieve my goals and dreams. I treat everyone with respect just as I would expect everyone to treat me. Life is all about love and knowing how to express it.

Coming from Puerto Rico, I’ve had quite the big culture shock. I’ve had to kind of adapt to the “ways of life” here in America, especially in this partially conservative state. But besides the cultural differences, I don’t feel so out of place because the students here at Marquette were chosen from the best, and I know that we all share the same level of maturity, at least most of us, and we are capable of handling different situations in the best way possible.

In the end we are all students trying to become honorable professionals for the service of our community. Besides the difference in the legal drinking age (in Puerto Rico it’s 18), the beach, and the warm weather, Milwaukee is somewhat the same as back home. It has become my home far away from home.

The Roads I Took to Get There: I’ve worked my butt off to get to where I am today. Since I began middle school, my dad kept reminding me how important it was for me to go to college and what sacrifices I needed to do in order to achieve this. Besides maintaining good grades, I participated in numerous internships (medicine related) that broadened my horizons immensely. I also did my research, looking for the college that better fitted the career I wished to pursue.

After many years of hard work, senior year came. This was my last year in high school and the last step before starting my career studies. But college wasn’t all about getting in, it also meant my parents had to make a big investment and a lot of money was involved. So I had to rely on scholarships. In total, 4 scholarships allowed me to sit in my bed in my dorm right now while writing this. Full tuition fought for with hard work. Success! I’m in college and I’m doing something with my life. For the first time I feel like I’m working for me, for my future and my well-being.

Continuing the Journey: For now, my main goal is being able to become a professional, and that means HARD WORK. But it’s all part of the package. I want to be able to help and be a friend. To lend a hand, and be held. I can’t really tell what the future has for me, but whatever it is, I’ll try and address it the best way I can.
