Snow-covered daisies: A taste of early spring trends
I just heard birds chirping on my way to coffee shop. Do you know what that means? It’s time to talk spring! While some inevitable March snowfalls are sure to come, it’s time to shift our thoughts from snowflakes to sunshine – and let the weather forecast catch up on it’s own!
Break out the oxford shoes, lightweight cardigans and sharp-shouldered blazers you picked up last fall and start to mix them with new spring finds. Some timeless traditions are back – florals are budding once again, now in tiny flower patterns and colorful abstract designs. New, unique looks are blossoming as well, taking inspiration from decades past and adjusting to today’s ‘anything goes’ fashion attitude. Here’s the A-List of up and coming trends that will fit perfectly into your springtime routine, whether you’re working the collegiate runway or shopping your heart out on spring break.
Breton Stripes: Made famous by Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, this nautical pattern offers preppy horizontal stripes that are actually slimming. My favorite way to wear them? In a slouchy, ¾ sleeve boat neck tee paired with colorful shorts and strappy leather sandals.
Wayfarer sunglasses: Back from the 1950s, these iconic glasses are making a comeback with our generation. Since they’re a classic, splurging on the real thing is a worthwhile investment. I love the twist of tortoise in the RB2132 New Wayfarer model. Alternatives like the Rimmed Square Sunglasses from Simply Vera Vera Wang offer the same look for less.
Tulle Accents: This pretty ballerina fabric is popping up everywhere. Black or blush tulle can be found peeking out from miniskirts and gracing romantic hairpieces. For a feminine daytime look, try a ballerina mini with a slub tee and a spritz of flowery perfume.
Statement shoes: I’m over the no heels in class routine. Have fun this spring with unconventional heels that play off couture creations by Dior and Chanel. Sleek, nude sandals like Max Studio’s Xenix Cage Sandals are an essential, and and colorful heels like Claudia Ciuti’s Allegrax can run the show as your only accessory.
Chambray shirts: What better way to break your blue jean streak? Chambray button-ups are the perfect topper to patterned shorts or slouch ankle pants. A comfortable choice for men or women, J. Crew does it best for both sexes.
Exposed Zippers and Studs: This hardware is giving sharp contrast to girly dresses, skirts and shoes. Exposed zippers are all over new pieces at Fred Boutique downtown, but you can pair a studded belt with your favorite floral dress for an instant update.
There you have it, fashionistas! A few fresh ways to prepare for spring. Let’s hope it’s on it’s way …
You’re Beautiful,
Alise
